IVACE 2026: Why You Shouldn’t Wait Until 29 October to Submit Your Application

The IVACE 2026 grants for energy efficiency enable companies in the Valencian Community to promote investments aimed at reducing energy consumption and CO₂ emissions. Although the application deadline is 29 October 2026, the grants are awarded according to the time of submission. Therefore, analysing the project, preparing the technical report and submitting the application as early as possible can make a decisive difference.
By Ana González, CEO and Agricultural Engineer – Industrial consultant in energy efficiency and grant management at AGB Ingeniers
When a company asks me how much time remains to apply for the IVACE 2026 energy efficiency grants, my first answer is usually clear: the official deadline is 29 October 2026. But I immediately add something that I consider even more important: this date should not be used as the reference point for starting to prepare the project.
The call has been open since 26 June and is aimed at companies based in the Valencian Community. However, the award criterion does not consist of waiting until the deadline and then comparing all the applications. IVACE establishes that the grants will be awarded according to the time at which each application is submitted. In addition, if the available budget is exhausted before the deadline, subsequent applications may continue to be registered, but they will be placed on a provisional reserve list.
This completely changes the way we should approach the timetable and, for that reason, 29 October should not be the target date for completing the work
In the agri-food industries we work with at AGB Ingeniers, many investments are decided during the summer months or when preparing for the next production season. It is common for the company already to know which installation it wants to improve: a refrigeration plant with high consumption, an old compressor, motors that always operate at full power or a production line that needs a more accurate measurement and control system.
The problem arises when having a clear investment in mind is confused with having a grant-eligible project ready.
Why is it important to submit the IVACE 2026 application early?
Because the call uses the time of application submission as the award criterion. In a funding programme with a limited budget, waiting until the final weeks may reduce the chances of receiving the grant, even if the project is technically sound.
The call has a total budget of 2.5 million euros. The grant may cover up to 35% of the eligible cost, with increases of ten percentage points for medium-sized companies and twenty percentage points for small companies. The limit is 400,000 euros per project and 800,000 euros per company.
These amounts may make an investment viable that the company has been postponing for some time. But precisely for this reason, significant interest from many Valencian companies can be expected.
Submitting early does not mean rushing. It means starting sooner to study the installation, gather consumption data, define the technical solution, request quotations and prepare the documentation consistently.
The application process begins long before electronic submission
This is a phrase I always like to highlight. From the outside, a grant application may appear to be a form accompanied by several documents. From a technical point of view, the real work begins much earlier.
To justify an investment in energy efficiency, we need to start from an initial situation. We need to know how the installation currently operates, how much energy it consumes and which variables influence that consumption. We must then define the proposed action and calculate the energy savings and emissions reduction that can be achieved.
The call requires energy savings and CO₂ emissions reductions to be quantifiable and supported by documentary evidence. It also establishes a minimum economic-energy ratio and specifies that the application must include an energy audit or technical project report, in addition to the corresponding administrative and technical documentation.
This means that it is not enough simply to state that a new piece of equipment consumes less energy.
It has to be demonstrated.
In a refrigeration installation, for example, we will need to study operating conditions, hours of use, thermal demand, the performance of the existing equipment and the expected performance of the new solution. In a compressed air system, consumption, pressure, leaks, regulation and the actual demand profile will need to be analysed. For motors and pumps, the use of variable frequency drives can generate significant savings, but these must be calculated on a technically defensible basis.
The most dangerous mistake: starting the investment before applying for the grant
Another reason not to leave the application until the last minute is that the action cannot have started before the application is registered. The call allows the project to begin once the application has been submitted, but not before.
This point is particularly important when a company urgently needs to renovate an installation.
Sometimes, the supplier has already prepared the quotation, management has approved the purchase and all that remains is to formalise the order. If the company orders or begins the action before submitting the application, it may lose the incentive effect required by the call and compromise the eligibility of the project.
That is why I recommend coordinating three decisions from the outset that are often managed separately: the production requirement, the technical definition and the grant application.
The maintenance team may identify the problem. The supplier may propose the solution. But someone must check whether that solution fits the call, correctly calculate the savings and organise the timetable before the investment gets underway.
What investments may qualify for the IVACE 2026 grants?
The call includes actions such as replacing process or auxiliary equipment with high-efficiency technologies, recovering waste heat, incorporating variable frequency drives, efficient motors and energy management, measurement and control systems.
Improvements to refrigeration installations, the replacement of professional refrigeration equipment, automation and control, as well as certain lighting and air-conditioning measures, may also receive support. The equipment purchased must be new.
For example, in the agri-food industry in the Valencian Community, we identify many opportunities of this kind. Industrial refrigeration, pumping, ventilation, compressed air, motors and processing lines account for a significant proportion of the energy consumption of many plants.
However, not every renovation is automatically eligible for funding. Maintenance or conservation actions are not considered eligible simply because they generate some savings. Nor does this call subsidise renewable energy installations or investments primarily intended to increase production capacity.
The key is for the investment to have a clear, measurable and properly justified energy-related purpose.
Submitting early does not mean submitting just anything
When I explain that the order of submission matters, some companies may interpret this as meaning that the priority is to register a basic application as soon as possible and complete the analysis later.
That is not the approach I recommend.
The priority should be to prepare an early application, but also a consistent one. The technical report, quotations, energy calculations and description of the action must all tell the same story.
If the quotation specifies one power rating, the technical report cannot use another. If the savings are calculated on the basis of a certain number of operating hours, there must be data available to justify them. If the investment includes auxiliary components, their direct relationship with the energy improvement must be explained.
An application prepared in a rush may contain inconsistencies that make its assessment more difficult. An application prepared in good time allows the initial situation to be reviewed, alternatives to be compared and the solution that genuinely offers a good relationship between investment and savings to be selected.
When should a company start preparing the application?
As soon as there is a genuine intention to improve an energy installation and before accepting orders, signing contracts or starting work.
The first step should not be to purchase the equipment, but to check:
- whether the company and the project meet the requirements;
- whether there is an initial consumption level that can be documented;
- whether the action will produce quantifiable savings;
- whether the eligible investment exceeds 10,000 euros;
- and whether there is still time to prepare a robust technical report.
From there, we can organise the information, request the necessary quotations and define a realistic submission strategy.
Our experience at AGB Ingeniers
At AGB Ingeniers, we work with companies that know their production processes perfectly but do not always have the time or technical resources required to turn an industrial need into a grant-eligible energy efficiency project.
Our job is to bring these two aspects together.
We visit the installation, study consumption, understand how production works and analyse which action can deliver genuine savings. We then translate that reality into a clear, quantified technical report that is consistent with the quotations.
The deadline is 29 October 2026, but the real timetable for each company depends on how advanced its project is. The sooner it is reviewed, the more time there will be to correct issues, compare alternatives and submit the application before the available budget may be exhausted.
Waiting until the last day may seem like a way to gain time. In a call awarded according to the order of submission, it can mean exactly the opposite.
Frequently asked questions about the IVACE 2026 grants
Until when can the IVACE 2026 grants be applied for?
The application period remains open until 29 October 2026, unless the budget is exhausted earlier. Applications submitted after the budget has been exhausted may be placed on a provisional reserve list.
Are the grants awarded on the basis of a scoring system?
The award criterion specified for this call is the time at which the application is submitted. Therefore, the order of registration has a direct impact.
Can the investment begin before the application is submitted?
No. The actions cannot have started before the date on which the grant application is registered.
What technical documentation is required?
The application must be accompanied by an energy audit or technical project report, in addition to the administrative and technical documentation required according to the type of applicant and action.
What is the minimum investment?
Only projects with an eligible investment exceeding 10,000 euros are considered.
